Our Library, Our Future: Capital Campaign

‘Our Library, Our Future’ Campaign raises $1 million.

The Burlingame Public Library renovation Project is nearly complete! The ‘Our Library, Our Future’ Campaign met its $1 Million Dollar goal last month!! Our plans built on the public library’s track record of strengthening our community and insuring that our libraries are the centers of learning, creativity and innovation in the digital age. The improvements made adapt our building to how people study and use the library in the 21st Century: They study together, engage with tutors or mentors, and take classes on job hunting, college admissions, cultural events, computer skills, robotics, and more. They make good use of soundproof spaces for conferencing and business incubation.

The Millennium project began as a $3.5 million modernization plan to renovate, recreate and renew the historic Burlingame Public Library. The City of Burlingame funded $2.5 million of the campaign and challenged the Burlingame Library Foundation to raise the remaining $1 million.

This campaign provided the expanded Hoefer Teen Room, a Tech-Media Lab, a 25 person Public Meeting room with technology for conferencing, four new soundproof rooms for study or conferencing, enhanced Wi-Fi throughout the library and a new automated check-in system. We have renovated this beautiful ‘Jewel of Burlingame’ due to the generosity of citizens from the Burlingame and Hillsborough communities in partnership with the Library Trustees and the City of Burlingame.   These renovations were finished ahead of schedule and on budget. The community support is a true testament to the value of the Burlingame Public Library to community it serves.

The campaign committee included Patty Anixter (campaign chair), Pat Harding (City Librarian), Kris Cannon, Betsy Corcoran, Alfred Escoffier, Rob Hutter, Michael Ma (Foundation President), Jan Mann, Patricia Nicholson, Sidney Poland, Lisa Rosenthal, Meeks Vaughan.

We sincerely thank the creative, dedicated and talented staff of the Burlingame Public Library, who assisted the campaign in many critical steps to achieve the goal and for their superior service to our community.
