Planned Giving

Escoffier Society

The Escoffier Society was created to recognize the foresight and generosity of individuals who have made a significant lifetime contribution, planned gift, or have included the Burlingame Library Foundation in their estate plans.

Members of the Escoffier Society are those individuals who have notified the Burlingame Library Foundation that they have designated the Foundation in their estate plans through bequests and other forms of planned gifts. In addition, the Escoffier Society includes individuals chosen by the Burlingame Library Foundation board of directors for their lifelong contributions to the success of the Burlingame Library.

This special recognition society has been named after Alfred Escoffier, who served as the City Librarian from 1992 to 2009 and who worked for the Burlingame Library from 1972 to 2009.

The society roster is printed annually and, on occasion, appears in other Foundation publications. Those members of the Escoffier Society who have given us permission will have their names included; those who wish to remain anonymous may of course do so.

If you have already included the Burlingame Library Foundation in a bequest or other planned gift, we hope you will let us know by filling out the member profile form.  Your willingness to be listed as a member of the Escoffier Society encourages others to follow your example.  We acknowledge and respect those who wish to remain anonymous, but we urge you, in any case, to let us know of your plans on a confidential basis.  Your gift supports the Burlingame Library Foundation’s planning for the future.  Of course, if you have not yet included the Burlingame Library Foundation in your plans and would like to explore the best options for you and your family, do not hesitate to contact us.  We would be glad to assist you on a confidential basis and without any obligation.

How to Join

The following types of commitments, confirmed in writing and subject to certain restrictions, qualify you for membership in the Escoffier Society:

  • A bequest provision in your will or revocable trust
  • A life-income gift that names the Burlingame Library Foundation as a remainder beneficiary, such as a charitable remainder trust, a charitable gift annuity, or a pooled income fund gift
  • A gift or assignment of qualified retirement plan assets, such as an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b)
  • A gift of life insurance
  • A significant lifetime gift or cumulative gifts of fungible assets.

Benefits of Membership

We hope you will allow us to recognize you as a member of the Escoffier Society in our annual recognition of members in the Burlingame Library Foundation communications. Your inclusion in the Foundation’s newsletters and other publications encourages others to join in this important effort.  Also, as a member of the Escoffier Society, you will be invited to join other Escoffier Society members at an annual reception on or around July 18th, which is Al Escoffier’s birthday.

Through their philanthropic commitments and membership in the Escoffier Society, these generous donors are making a powerful statement about Burlingame’s future. Thank you!
