Asset-Based Giving

DONOR-ADVISED FUND (DAF): A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving tool where donors contribute cash, stocks, or other assets to a fund managed by a sponsoring organization, like a community foundation or investment firm. Donors receive an immediate tax deduction for their contribution and can then advise on where the funds should be granted in the future. Learn More

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED STOCK: You can directly donate stock to the Burlingame Library Foundation, get a deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock at the time of the transfer (its increased value), and avoid paying capital gains taxes on the appreciated value of the stock. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the Foundation is also exempt from paying the capital gains tax.

The following information will help with a gift of appreciated stock:

  • Receiving Institution Account Number: 1969-6867

  • Account Title / Registration: Burlingame Library Foundation

  • Contact Name at Charitable Organization: Sarah Simson

  • Contact Email: info@burlingamelibraryfoundation.org

  • Mailing Address: 480 Primrose Rd, Burlingame, CA 94010

  • Name of Receiving Institution/Broker: Charles Schwab & Co.

  • DTC Number: 0164

  • Printable form to request a charitable transfer available here.

DONATION FROM AN IRA: Please contact your IRA custodian to make your donation in this way. If you are 70-1/2 or older, you can donate funds from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the Burlingame Library Foundation in what is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). And, if you've reached the age where you need to take required minimum distributions (RMDs) from your traditional IRAs, these donations will count toward your RMDs and you can avoid paying taxes on the money by donating it to the Foundation.
